In a move to strengthen collaboration between KNUST and its strategic partners to undertake community based projects, the Vice- Chancellor, Professor William O. Ellis, called on Ashanti Regional Offices of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
Professor Ellis expressed appreciation to the Electricity Company of Ghana, Ghana Water Company Limited and the Ghana National Fire Service for their continued support and service to KNUST and its environs. He therefore, called for a deeper partnership between KNUST and its key strategic partners, especially in the area of undertaking community impact programmes in some selected localities.
The Regional Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (East -Ashanti Region), Mr. Abdulai Kurah, gave the assurance that, the ECG would continue to be a strategic partner of KNUST. He was full of praise for the official visit and hoped to reciprocate the courtesy call in future.
On his part, the Regional Director of Ghana Water Company Limited, Mr. Boakye Frimpong an alumnus of KNUST, expressed gratitude to Professor Ellis for the visit, and congratulated him on his appointment as Vice-Chancellor. Mr. Frimpong assured GWCL's preparedness to improve upon water supply to the University community. He added that, the GWCL would consolidate its collaboration with the KNUST and ensure that the University realizes its goals.
In a statement, the Regional Commander of Ghana National Fire Service, Mr. Philip Ahen, recommended the establishment of a Fire Station at KNUST. Mr. Ahen commended the University Authorities for its decision to introduce a degree programme in Fire Engineering in the near future. He advised that, fire protection equipment and the requisite systems should be installed in the traditional halls of residence of the University to ensure safety.
Professor Ellis welcomed the suggestions, and disclosed that "Disaster Management Programme" will soon be incorporated into the academic calendar to educate students admitted into the University. He urged staff of the GNFS to take advantage of short certificate and Diploma programmes which will soon be mounted at KNUST to enhance human resources development.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Mr. M.K Okrah, Senior Assistant Registrar at the Vice-Chancellor's Office and Mr. Solomon Panford, Deputy Registrar at the University Relations Office.
